PROCESS.

  1. Selection of the Problem
Either there is a specific problem to solve, or the majority of the audience decides which problem the 12 must solve.

  2. Selection of the 12
The 12 are selected at random from volunteers in the audience
(or chosen randomly in another way).

  3. Rules
Once the 12 are seated, the rules are explained (there aren’t many!).

  4. Start
Then the countdown for the first 45 minutes begins. The 12 moderate the conversation themselves, using the rules and dialogue cards they receive at the beginning.

  5. If the discussion stalls, they may ask the audience for help 3 times (jokers).

  6. After 45 minutes, there is a 10–15 minute break to catch their breath and to decide who will present the solution at the end.

  7. During another 10–15 minutes, the audience has the opportunity to participate actively.

  8. Then the countdown for the second 45 minutes begins.
After 80 minutes, a signal indicates that 10 minutes remain to present the solution as effectively as possible.

  9. Solution
The 12 must present their solution before the 90 minutes are up. If they reach an agreement earlier, all the better.

  10. Audience decides
If there is a solution, the audience decides at the end whether to accept it or not.
If the solution is rejected, the 12 may claim a 15-minute “extension” to adjust the solution.

  11. End
with agreement: There will be a reward.

without agreement - or if the solution is not accepted by the audience - all 12 agree to do at least one day of community work each.
